My dear fellow IVC members, I hope you are all well and staying safe.

There has never been a time when wishing our friends and family the warmest of seasonal greetings ever been more important. This has been a challenging time for everybody and, for some, absolute hell.
However, there does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel and it looks like normality seems only months away.

Let us hope that the vaccine will do its job. Whatever your feelings are for the vaccine, I understand both sides. However, on seeing a man in his nineties, I believe, being one of the first to receive it I was moved by his hope to soon hug his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hope is all he has left. Hope is what sustains us all.

The recent change in plans has perhaps left us all rather saddened. If anyone is struggling at this time and finds themselves alone, please do let us know if we can help. If you are alone on Christmas Day and need a Christmas dinner – there will be help on hand!

If people need us to open a zoom room to have a chat – please do just let us know.
I would like to thank all those members that are continuing to organise events. Troopers, each and every one of you.
We are organising a Zoom pantomime on 30th December and hope that many of you can join us. We'll need an audience as well as people to play the parts. It'll be great fun.

Perhaps it is also time just to reflect on the losses this year. Christmas can be difficult when everyone is celebrating but many – especially this year – are feeling sad. We have to rely on that hope that the future will be brighter.

That just leaves me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Make this the year to zest up your social life! Swindon IVC (Inter Varsity Club) is a lively social activity club, begun in 1980, run by and for its members. This keeps the cost low and the fun high! We've around 50 members - singles and couples - of all ages. Our common interests range from book club, meals out, cinema, films, music, pub-nights, quiz nights, theatre trips, walking the great outdoors and beyond.

But most of all, we like to meet people, make friends and do the things we enjoy in good company. Sounds like you? Then, whether you're new in Swindon or just want to expand your social circle, then click here to go to the Joining page and discover more.
