Previous walks include a circular stroll and lunch stop around Malmesbury on Saturday 22nd February and a Canal-side evening stroll on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 when 10 of us, including 3 new faces, enjoyed a 4 mile stroll near Royal Wootton Bassett followed (for some) by a refreshing pint in the 5 Bells pub.

A previous walk was Sat. 7th October, 10:30 am from Beckhampton gallops up to the Cherhill Monument and White Horse (4.5 miles total) followed by lunch at The Waggon and Horses, Beckhampton, a short drive away.

We had 7 walkers and two dogs and were lucky with lovely sunny weather. Nine of us enjoyed a delicious meal at the Waggon and Horses afterwards.

These are details of a walk we enjoyed on Easter Monday 2023 after lunch at the Who'd Have Thought It pub, Lockeridge, near Marlborough. Original plan was to walk in the morning followed by lunch, but heavy rain spoilt that, so we walked in the afternoon and were very lucky to enjoy blue skies and no rain.

Our 5 mile walk started at the Gravel Hill Car Park near Manton House up on to the Marlborough Downs passing the gallops up to Green street / Herepath, then back via Fyfield Down including an excursion to the dolmen, Devils Den.

General notes on SIVC walking

Group of people walking

Walks have featured regularly in our events programme.  The last couple of years has meant that we haven't been able to get out as much as we like and it did mean that during the summer months when members were able to exercise, many went for walks on their own or in couples and we compared notes via a series of “Armchair Walking” Zoom meetings.

As we get back to normal we hope that we can have more frequent walks.  Our walks were usually held once a month.  Walks are arranged by individual members of the club. All that needs to be done is to pick a route and add the details to the website events details page.

The distance of the walk is your choice and can be short or long. We've previously walked locally as well as further afield in Wales. Usually, a picnic or pub lunch along the route is included, so this is a good incentive to get your walking boots on! Once details are published, members will contact you if they wish to participate.

We are a member of aIVC (national Association of IVCs).
